Final thoughts

At U12, the philosophy is for player development, not team wins. Having said that, all the girls on this team not only increased their skills, they learned how to play as a team, and by doing that successfully learned to win. Final record for the year: 25-3-1. 90 goals scored for and 23 against.
Those are VERY good statistics, and I hope you remember this soccer year for a long time.
All of you played an important part of this and once again I must say what a joy it was to coach you. A big thanks to Peter Saunders whose experience in coaching was invaluable, and Peter Eckards contributions including having our goalies properly trained and ready to go. I would also like to thank the parents who were so supportive as well. We fought hard to keep this team together, but understand the need for balanced teams at this age and thus are sorry to see Josee, Nat and Ravdeep leave us. We wish you three a successful year with Drew and Doug, but don't be surprised if you get a call for joing us at Timmys!
Cheers,
Collin

Big game win= Jamboree winner

What a way to finish the year! That was a very physical Vancouver team in an evenly matched back and forth game. Sophie made a couple of HUGE saves late, and Nat made a beauty bicycle kick and header to save a goal while we were up 4-3. We have played superior technical soccer during the year with better passing, but I don't think we have shown as much poise and toughness. I had some comments from our parents how they were feeling so nervous watching the game, but were amazed at how calm the team was. Your coaches are very proud of you!

West Van

We completely carried the play in the first half, but they battled back hard in the second.
The final result of 2-0 was indicative of the play, and was another well earned victory for us.

1 game left, lets finish up strong!!!

Nanaimo Academy

Great game! Up by one to start the game, followed by 2 quick goals by Nanaimo.
Then we got into our groove, and scored 4 unanswered goals. :)
Josee with the natural hat trick to boot!
2 games left, lets keep it rolling.....

Lakehill game

2-0 win. Great start to the weekend!

11 a side Peninsula tourney

Thought I would do a quick update on our Peninsula games from last weekend.
We were a little slow to start in the Gorge game, but finished strong. Against Lakehill, I thought we had our best 11 a side match yet, you girls played very well and spread the field.
Well done!

Post CB game.

I thought we did fairly well for our first official 11 a side game. Julia and Grace were solid in goal, and although the overall play was fairly even, we out chanced CB by quite a bit. Both their goalies made some huge saves, especially the one in the second half off a nice left footed shot by Celeste. I liked the way our defense played limiting their opportunities, and the fact you played the second half of this game with only one sub was a tribute to the fitness of this team. Thanks to Josee and Claire for their goals, and Dakota, Julia P and Zoey for playing with us. So moving forward, let's remember to play the way we are facing, work the give and go's, and stay wide when we have possession of the ball. See you Tuesday.

Good game

I thought our Gordon Head Silver girls did very well for their first 11 a side match. The 7 girls from our team stepped up nicely to show the way, and I know a few of you were pretty tired from all the running because of no subs. Back to practice Tuesday night, we play Cordova Bay for a full field game Saturday, we will have a few Silver players joining our team .

See you at 9:15

3-2 over Bays

That was a good game against a well coached Bays team. Thank you Julia and Sophie for solid goaltending. Bays scored 2 very nice goals, but each of ours was well earned, showing good teamwork. Jenna did a nice re-direction off Claire's cross, Celeste made a beautiful through ball to Josee who finished perfectly, and Claire did a great turn after a perfect pass from Julia, and buried it with her left foot (thats why we practice with our left!).
After the game, I had a brief talk with the other coach, we agreed both teams played well, but he felt we won more of the 50/50 balls, in fact he told his girls we won 5 in a row. That proves how important it is to be first to the ball. :)
Lets keep up the good team play!

Game vs Bays on the turf

Tyndall field kick off 8:30.
See you there at 8.

Well done again

4-0 against a much improved Lakehill team.

Solid game today

Great passing to start the game, but we lost it for a bit in the second half, so let's make it a goal to keep that up for 60 minutes. :)
You also played very well defensively, and really only gave up 1 chance the whole game.
Overall, another great effort and a well earned 4-0 victory.

Game at Gorge on the turf

Kick off at 11, please be there by 10:30.

Monday, February 8, 2010

Another W

We didn't pass all that well in the second half but the mark of a good team is capitalizing on chances. Nat scored a couple of nice goals, as did Julia and Claire. The other positive was we didn't give up too many scoring chances, and when we did, Sophie and Grace came through.

Game Saturday

Tyndall turf 9:45.

Please arrive at 9:15 in footwear suitable for warming up on the grass!

Thoughts on todays game

That was the toughest game I have seen this team play all year. You were up against a very physical opponent, and you all rose to the challenge. You played hard but fair, were first to the ball, and we ended up with a well earned 3-1 victory. I was VERY dissapointed to hear how the parents from the opposing team were heckling our girls, that was completely uncalled for and I will be addressing it.
Although I believe in respect for your elders, Claire's comment to those boorish parents at the end of the game was a beauty. :) Way to stick up for your teammate!

Regarding practice

Really nice to see everyone turn out (other than Steff who is still hurting, get better soon!). We have had great attendance to start the New Year, and it is appreciated. I know volleyball has started up, so do your best to get to the Tuesday night practices as soon as you can. We are going to continue to let Tuesdays be a little "casual" but Thursday night is where we want to be more serious in order to be ready for game day. :)

Great job in Nanaimo

For such a cold, miserable, wet day, I thought our team played very well. Thanks to all the girls for putting in such a great effort, and thanks to the parents for coming up! Three games, no losses and only giving up 1 goal is a great accomplishment. :)

We have been asked to do it again Feb 28th, please fill out the poll with your answers.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Cordova Bay game

Great team effort! I thought it was a very close first half, they put pressure on but Jenna kept them off the scoreboard with solid goaltending. Sophie scored a nice goal to put us up by one.
We scored some very nice goals in the second half, the final one off the corner by Josee will be something I remember for a while.

We will need to bring the same passion to the tournament in Nanaimo this weekend!
